Day 7 receipt
GPT-6.1 Sol
OpenAI's DevDay upgrade to GPT-6 Sol, pitched as near-Astra intelligence at a fifth of Astra's price.
Launch dayWhat they claimed, quoted word for word · 5
“GPT-6.1 Sol is available starting today to all Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex.”
Users on paid plans could not see it until they updated; a maintainer posted minimum app and CLI versions.
“In the coming days, we’ll also offer GPT-6.1 Sol Ultrafast, with up to 8x faster token generation compared to its standard speed in Codex.”
Ultrafast arrived on 8 Oct, but only on Pro 500 and eligible Enterprise/Edu plans. No user speed measurements yet.
“GPT-6.1 Sol is more transparent about its limitations and more reliable at respecting user intent and safety constraints.”
A forum thread reports refusals and sanitised rewrites on allowed work.
“We’re introducing GPT-6.1 Sol, an upgrade to GPT-6 Sol that nearly matches GPT-6 Astra’s intelligence on agentic coding, computer use, and professional work at one-fifth of Astra’s standard input and output token prices.”
Benchmarks only; no solid user comparison found.
“Its standard API prices are $2 per million input tokens, $0.10 per million cached input tokens, and $10 per million output tokens.”
A list price. No user report disputes it; we have not checked anyone's bill.

GPT-6.1 Sol doesn't appear in Codex (desktop, CLI or VS Code)
An OpenAI maintainer posted minimum versions: desktop 26.928.21956 (Windows package 26.928.2636.0), Codex CLI 0.159.1, VS Code extension 26.928.31416 (pre-release 26.5928.31416). For the CLI, an old background app-server can keep running after you update, so update and restart the daemon too.
