Day 2 of 7Announced on 29 Oct 2026 (16:56 UTC) in an X post by OpenAI's Codex and ChatGPT lead as 'Day 25' of OpenAI's 28-day series; the ChatGPT release notes entry dated 29 Oct is the official page. No openai.com/news post.
OpenAI doubled the Work and Codex allowance on the lowest and highest Pro tiers, cancelled a planned cut to the middle Pro tier and raised Business Premium usage.
Launch dayWhat they claimed, quoted word for word · 5
“Pro 100 and Pro 500 plans now include twice their previous Work and Codex allowance.”
Two users on the lowest tier saw their usage meter jump to about double without a reset. No reports yet from the highest tier, and OpenAI publishes no baseline to check 'twice' against.
“We’ve also canceled the Pro 200 reduction announced in our September 29 email.”
A subscriber on the grandfathered higher allowance says it stayed the same, and heise, BleepingComputer and Android Authority all report the cut is off. One user had already downgraded before the reversal.
“Starting October 29, Pro 200 subscribers on the lower allowance get twice their previous Work and Codex allowance, bringing them up to the same limit.”
No first-hand reports yet from middle-tier subscribers who were on the lower allowance.
“We are doubling all usage limits for all Pro 100/200/500 tiers and Business Premium, effective today.”
It took effect the same day, but OpenAI's own release notes narrow it to Work and Codex, and middle-tier users already on the higher allowance get no increase. heise calls the announcement unclear for that tier.
“We’re also going to continue offering extended limits for dots for now, and usage of your dot will still continue to be separate from your default usage.”
'For now' has no end date, and no user has reported on dot usage since the change.
Day 7What real users report · 4
A subscriber on the lowest Pro tier says their usage meter jumped from 34 percent to 68 percent, seemingly at random, about half an hour before they posted on the day of the announcement.
A user says their available usage jumped without a reset on the day of the announcement and asks whether that is this change.
A middle-tier subscriber on the grandfathered higher allowance welcomes the reversal but says the unchanged allowance still forces them to pause app work for a couple of days each week while waiting for a reset.
A user says they had already downgraded before OpenAI announced the reversal, and asks whether anything will stay stable.

Reads the fine print: only the lowest and highest Pro tiers and Business Premium appear to double, while the middle tier only has its announced cut reversed, so the announcement is not entirely clear.
